ECI Meeting On Tuesday Again On Kashmir Assembly Polls

Sarfaraz Ahmad Lone

Srinagar, April 26 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) is meeting again on Tuesday to discuss the conduct of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir even as state government favored elections in November.

“Commission has not taken any decision with regard to the conduct of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir,” said ECI’s official spokesperson Sheyphali Sharan while talking to news agency.

She said that Commission is holding meeting every Friday and Tuesday. “The agenda of the upcoming meeting on Tuesday will be assembly polls in the state of J&K.”

She said that there was no decision with regard to the assembly elections in the meeting attended by chief election commissioner J&K Shailender Kumar and Home Secretary Shaleen Kabra. Several senior officers were also present.

Meanwhile, a security officer told that the security agencies cited various reasons for not holding assembly polls in summer this year, underlining that security establishments are busy with Amarnath Yatra and that there are possibilities of more attacks by militants during the season. (GNS)
