International Labour Day observed at Baramulla

BARAMULLA,MAY 01:On the eve of International Labour Day, a function was organized by Labour department at Sheerwani Hall, Baramulla today.  Presided over by the District Development Commissioner Baramulla  Dr. G.N. Itoo, the function was attended by ACD, Baramulla,  Yawar Ali Khan, Assistant Labor Commissioner (ALC), Baramulla Waheed Ahmad,Chief Executive Officer MCB Wali Mohammad Wani, Chairman Human Aid Society Bashir Ahmad, Officers of various functionaries, representatives of various Trade Unions and a good number of Labour Community.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC while highlighting the importance of Labour Day, lauded the roll of Labourers for their hard work by virtue of which big buildings, roads and other projects are being completed. He said the issues of the laborers need to be considered on priority, for which he directed the ALC and other officials to respect these people in their offices and other institutions. The DDC said the establishment of J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board was a revolutionary decision to empower Labour Community. He said a number of schemes are presently in vogue for the welfare of construction workers.

Offering his full support from the District Administration, the DDC said the steps will be taken for construction of Labour Sarai and other residential Sheds for Labourers in the district. He directed the concerned to identify the actual deserving so that no hurdle comes in the verification of such cases, for which he suggested to constitute a screening committee in the Labour office.

The ALC on the occasion briefed that financial assistance of Rs. 8.67 crore have been disbursed among 17036 workers under various schemes in the district during the last financial year. of this, over Rs. 7.64 crore were provided under Education Assistance Scheme, Rs. 13.73 Lakh to Chronic Patients, Rs.8.60 Lakh as death assistance while as  Rs. 3.20 Lakh provided under disability, injured and other persons.

The ACD in his speech said that Rs. 10 crore have been released under RDD sector recently in the District which will be put into the account numbers of the workers till evening today.

Chairman Human Aid Society and other speakers also spoke on the importance of Labour Day   and put forth various demands for the welfare of Labourers.
