Achabal Encounter: Police Version

Police in a statement today said that on a credible input, a cordon & search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces at Badoora in Achabal area of District Anantnag.

As the searches were going on, the hiding militant fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the exchange of fire at the site of encounter, one Army Officer Ketan Sharma sustained gunshot injuries. He was evacuated to the hospital where he succumbed. Besides two other Army officials also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police further said that we pay our rich tributes to Officer Ketan Sharma for the supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty.

In the encounter, 01 militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militant is being ascertained.

Incriminating material including arms & ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter.

Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
