A dream come true- PMAY Scheme

A bright smile lights up Bishamber’s face as he proudly shows us his modest dwelling. Gesturing to his abode, he flaunts the newly constructed one room set including a kitchen. Expressions of relief and joy are mirrored in his face. A king couldn’t be prouder of his mansion. The reason behind his exuberance is crystal clear a well-built permanent residence for him and his family.

Bishamber is a poor man of Village Qutab Nizam Panchayat Jinder Mehlu of Block Miran Sahib, Jammu belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) family and has a small shop in his own village where he earns his livelihood by tailoring work. He was facing lots of problems due to non-availability of Pakka House. In an interview, he disclosed that he has a son namely Raman Kumar who is studying in class 12th and a daughter namely Simran Kumari who is mentally unwell.

He said that, “Earlier we had only Kucha House comprising one room and a small kitchen, which caused great hardship as during the rainy season, we had to face many problems due to dripping water from roof during rain. In order to survive the seasons we had to stay at our neighbour’s house as we were unable to sleep in our own house during rain. The study of my son Raman was also disrupted due to non-availability of proper living accommodation”.

“After hearing about the government scheme- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY, we approached our panch and sarpanch and applied for PMAY” he added.

Bishamber Lal applied for the PMAY in the year 2017 and he received three installments for construction of house. He received first and second of Rs. 50 thousands and third installment of Rs. 30,000. After receiving installments under PMAY finally his dream came true and he constructed his house and now living happy life with his family.

Like Bishamber, there are many poor people (families) who have constructed their houses under Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY. The mission has brought happiness to many poor people.

It is pertinent to mention here that, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY is a mission launched by government of India which intends to provide housing for all. The mission provides central Assistance to the implementing agencies through State/ Union Territories and central nodal agencies for providing houses to all eligible families / beneficiaries.

As per official data 9532223 houses have been completed in India and 21021 families have constructed their houses under PMAY in Jammu and Kashmir.
