Shopian Gunfight: Five militants killed, Internet Snapped

Three commanders among 14 killed in last 3 days

Anantnag, June 10 (KINS): Five militants were killed in a gunfight which broke out between militants and government forces at Sugu Handamah area of southern Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.

Officials told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that all the five militants have been killed and their identification is being ascertained.

After a gunfight broke out, authorities also snapped down mobile internet services in Shopian district.

Earlier, government forces including 44RR, SOG and CRPF launched cordon and search operations in the area after specific inputs about hiding of militants in the area.

The hiding militants opened fire on the search party which was retaliated thus triggering the encounter.

It was the third gunfight in South Kashmir Shopian in the last four days. In earlier two encounters nine militants were killed including five in Reban village and four in Pinjoora village.

As per police statement all the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

In this connection a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police station Zainpora and investigation has been initiated, the statement reads.(KINS)
