Pulwama youth becomes fresh victim

Srinagar, June 30 (KINS): There seems no end of suicides in depressed Kashmir as one more youth ended his life by taking an extreme step, taking the toll of suicides in Kashmir to 9 in just 30 days.

An official told news agency KINS that a 25-year-old youth from Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district allegedly hanged himself to death at a maternity hospital in Bemina area of Srinagar.

Official said he was admited there and this afternoon he found hanged in the second floor of the hospital.

Meanwhile, police has recovered the body and started further investigation into the matter.

As reported news agency KINS that Kashmir has witnessed an increase in suicides cases since past month.
In the recent past several people including some girls attempted suicide.  The increased incidence of suicide attempts, particularly among the Kashmiri youth, has become a serious concern for the people.

Experts believe that first aid for mental health should also become a part of the curriculum in schools and colleges.

“We need to therefore empower educators, parents and other primary caregivers, who are regularly engaged with young people to be able to provide guidance in times of need,” a doctor at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital, said.

“Parental pressure, tough competition in studies and career, lack of moral and religious education are the main reasons for these suicidal attempts among youth,” the doctor added. (KINS)
