SRINAGAR, July 1(KINS): On the occasion of Doctors’ Day, J&K Society of Consultant Doctors JKSCD has felicitated all doctors’ working tirelessly in their pursuit to heal, help and mitigate suffering of people.
A spokesperson in a statement to KINS said, “On this occasion we reiterate our resolve to our patients by choosing to value each individual who presents as a patient and committing ourselves to the ethical commitment to care.”
JKSCD welcomes the recent issuance of a senior consultant list in the health department by H&ME. JKSCD is, however, dismayed at the apathy and delay over the decision of the administrative department over constant ignoring of the inalienable fact that the posts earmarked for senior consultants are only for some limited specialities since its creation many years ago which, JKSCD believes was an irrational process in the first place since it did not take into consideration a proper procedure involving caderisation and allocation of a genuine number of senior consultant posts into each speciality.
“Specialties like SPM which have a foremost role to play in the present COVID-19 crisis do not have a single allocated consultant post in our department and more than eight specialities including the critical care speciality of Anaesthesia are not represented for senior consultant posts at all. Following the present process in promotions is not only insubstantial but is also not inclusive enough and thereby undermines not only promotional opportunities but also significantly hinders consultants’ career progression,” the statement reads.
“SCD has raised this issue many times with the administration and had even drafted various memorandums duly forwarded by the Director Health to administrative department but it seems there is no headway. 1.(( No:- EST/3/1-133/1625 dtd 19-10-2019 (caderisation and other demands)); 2. (EST/3/1-133/611 dtd 19/02/2020). There is, quite expectedly dissent growing in the ranks of consultants as this kind of exercise benefits few only. SCD appeals LG of J&K, the honorable Advisor Health and the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education to kindly look into this genuine issue and expedite efforts towards mitigation of the concerns of the consultant community of the health department at the earliest,” it reads.(KINS)
