Awantipora Police arrests drug peddler, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Oct 17: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession, a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson in a statement to news agency to KINS said officers in the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora intercepted one person moving in suspicious circumstances near JK bank Panzgam. He has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Bhat resident of Ladermud Awantipora. “During checking, officers were able to recover 4Kgs of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody,” the statement said.

Accordingly, a case FIR No.148/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” the statement said.
