NIA raid on Jamaat leaders a self goal, Mehbooba

Srinagar, Aug 9 (KINS) Alleging that raids by National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) leaders and workers in the Jammu and Kashmir was a self goal, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said these measures only widens gulf between the people of J&K and the rest of the country.
The NIA conducted raids at over 50 places in the J&K on Sunday on the residential houses and other offices of JeI leaders and activists on Sunday. The JeI has been banned by the government in 2019.
President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba alleged that such oppressive measures may seem to work temporarily but in the long run it will prove counter productive.
Mehbooba, who headed a coalition government with BJP before the saffron party pulled out from the alliance, said NIA raids JeI is emblematic of Government of India (GOI) waging a war against its so called integral part. Instead of fighting an ideology with a better idea it is crushing contrarian thought with an iron fist.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Mehbooba said “ Such oppressive measures may seem to work temporarily but in the long run it will prove to be counter productive. The gulf between J&K & rest of the country widens with every passing day. It is a self goal”.
“NIA raids on Jamaat is emblematic of GOI waging a war against its so called ‘integral part’. Instead of fighting an ideology with a better idea it is crushing contrarian thought with an iron fist”, she further tweeted.
