In a significant development, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir (TeH), has been officially declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The move comes as a stern response to the outfit’s involvement in activities aimed at separatism and the establishment of Islamic rule in the region.
In a post on X, Home Minister Amit Shah said that TeH has been under scrutiny for its alleged role in forbidden activities that seek to unravel the integral fabric of Jammu and Kashmir from India.
The organization has been accused of spreading anti-India propaganda and actively engaging in terror activities, fueling secessionist sentiments within the region.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, the government has taken decisive action to curb any individual or organization found participating in anti-India activities. The declaration of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, J&K, as an ‘Unlawful Association’ aligns with this unwavering commitment to national security.
