Srinagar, Jan 19: In a proactive move to combat the persistent issue of drug abuse, Kulgam Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler, seizing a significant quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
On January 19, a police party from Police Station DH Pora, stationed at Margibal Gojjarpora, intercepted a motorcyclist attempting to evade inspection. The individual was identified as Sayar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Salam Mir, a resident of Waripora. Despite his attempt to flee, the alert police party tactfully chased and apprehended him. Upon searching Mir, officers discovered 2.5 kgs of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag. The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime, bearing registration number JK03D-8782, was also seized.
A case under FIR No. 04/2024, invoking sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station DH Pora, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report instances of drug peddling or any criminal activity to the nearest police station or by dialing 112. Cooperation from the community is essential in the collective effort to eradicate the menace of drugs. The police reiterate their commitment to taking strong legal action against criminals, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
