Srinagar, Oct 31 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine die, marking the conclusion of its nine-day autumn session that began on October 23 in Srinagar.
According to Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the session, which commenced with obituary references on 23, included six working days during which members deliberated on a wide range of issues concerning governance, public welfare, infrastructure, and development across the Union Territory.
Several members, speaking at the conclusion of the session, praised the Speaker for conducting the proceedings in a fair and disciplined manner.
Assembly Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, after adjourning the House sine die at 1:02 p.m., expressed satisfaction over the overall conduct of the session. “As the presiding officer of this House, I tried to give time to every member. However, some time was wasted during the proceedings, and I hope members will take care of this in the future. We are here to raise the issues of the people,” he said as per KINS.
The Speaker extended his gratitude to all those who contributed to the smooth functioning of the Assembly, including the employees of the Secretariat. “I am happy that every member of this House tried to highlight issues concerning the public. Everyone in this House is equal for me. I sit in this Chair to deliver justice to this institution,” he added.
The session, which largely proceeded smoothly except for a few noisy moments, saw the passage of five government bills and discussions on two private members’ resolutions.
During the sittings, the Assembly Secretariat received 732 questions, of which 682 were admitted, while 29 were taken up for discussion with 73 supplementary questions raised by members. A total of 97 Zero Hour issues were also brought up during the proceedings.
In addition, 14 private bills were received and 33 from previous sessions remain pending. Of the 41 private bills listed for discussion, eight were debated — all of which were either withdrawn following government assurances or defeated by voice vote at the introduction stage.
Furthermore, 67 calling attention notices were submitted, with 10 taken up for discussion, while 14 private member resolutions were admitted, of which one was passed during the session.(KINS)
