Srinagar, Feb 14: The unchecked proliferation of polythene usage in Sunjwan, Jammu, has transformed the once pristine locality into a virtual dustbin, with garbage strewn across roadsides and empty lands.
Despite efforts by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to collect waste, residents continue to indiscriminately dispose of garbage, posing a grave threat to public health.
The widespread use of polythenes in the area poses a significant threat to the environment.
In certain parts of Sunjwan, inhabitants openly dispose of waste onto streets and empty lots, worsening the sanitation issues and fostering conditions for disease propagation.
Particularly alarming is the situation near Barmani Road, where a significant water channel has become a dumping site for various waste materials.
Simultaneously, green areas are being marred by the indiscriminate dumping of polythene bags, further deteriorating the environmental landscape.
Concerned citizens are urging authorities to intervene promptly and enforce strict measures to curb this escalating problem.
“We cannot allow our community to be submerged in filth and disease due to the irresponsible actions of a few,” emphasized a resident of Sunjwan.
“Authorities must step in decisively to address this pressing issue before it spirals out of control.”
The appeal from citizens underscores the urgent need for coordinated action to tackle the rampant misuse of polythene and ensure the cleanliness and well-being of Sujma and its inhabitants.
