Commissioner SMC Directs Post-Snowfall Inspection of Dewatering Stations to Tackle Waterlogging Issues

Srinagar, Feb 21: In response to the recent snowfall and the potential threat of waterlogging in vulnerable areas, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Owais IAS, has issued directives for a thorough inspection of all dewatering stations across the city. The Mechanical Engineering Division, under the supervision of the City Drainage Circle of SMC, undertook this task to ensure the efficiency of the dewatering process.

The post-snowfall inspection aimed to assess the functionality and readiness of dewatering stations in mitigating waterlogging issues, especially in areas prone to inundation during heavy rainfall or snowmelt. With the onset of winter, the risk of waterlogging amplifies, posing challenges to the smooth flow of traffic and affecting the daily lives of residents.

The inspection, carried out as per the directives of Commissioner Owais IAS, focused on evaluating the operational status of pumps, checking the drainage networks, and identifying any potential areas requiring immediate attention. It also emphasized the importance of proactive measures to address waterlogging concerns before they escalate into significant disruptions.

Officials from the Mechanical Engineering Division visited each dewatering station to ensure that equipment was functioning optimally and that adequate measures were in place to handle any influx of water. Additionally, they verified the coordination between various departments involved in managing drainage systems to streamline the response in case of emergencies.

Commissioner Owais IAS emphasized the significance of proactive measures in mitigating waterlogging issues, stating, “Ensuring the efficient functioning of dewatering stations is crucial to preemptively address waterlogging challenges, especially in the aftermath of snowfall. We are committed to maintaining the smooth operation of drainage systems to safeguard the well-being of citizens and uphold the city’s infrastructure.”

The initiative reflects the SMC’s dedication to enhancing the city’s resilience against natural elements and its commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted flow of essential services, even during adverse weather conditions. By conducting post-snowfall inspections of dewatering stations, the SMC aims to bolster its preparedness to tackle waterlogging challenges and minimize disruptions to public life.
