SKIMS Issues important information Against Misleading Donations for Cardiac Treatments Outside J&K

Srinagar, Mar 30: An important public information has been issued by the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) regarding the collection of donations by certain organizations purportedly for the treatment of patients, particularly children, suffering from various heart diseases like Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and other cardiac procedures.
The information, disseminated through the Public Relations office of SKIMS on social media platform x, aims to alert the general public about potentially misleading initiatives.
According to the information, some organizations have been soliciting donations under the pretext of arranging treatment outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) for patients with cardiac ailments, particularly those referred from SKIMS.
It has been clarified that SKIMS routinely conducts these cardiac procedures, including VSD repair and other complex surgeries, at its Department of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery.
The information emphasizes that any patient in need of specialized treatment receives official referral letters after thorough consultation by the concerned department at SKIMS. The institution further assures the public of its well-established Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Department, which conducts these cardiac procedures on a regular basis, catering to the healthcare needs of the region.
Expressing concern over the potential misdirection of donations and the undermining of public institutions, SKIMS urges any organization wishing to assist financially disadvantaged patients to coordinate directly with the Department of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery at SKIMS. By doing so, they can ensure that their support directly benefits those in need within the region and avoids setting a precedent that could diminish the role and capabilities of public healthcare institutions.
The information serves as a reminder to the general public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of donation campaigns before contributing, especially when they pertain to critical healthcare needs.
SKIMS reiterates its commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and encourages collaboration with genuine efforts aimed at supporting patients in need.
