Srinagar, Aug 10: As Independence Day approaches, Jammu and Kashmir has seen a significant ramp-up in security measures. To ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities on August 15, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, have implemented an extensive security strategy.
The enhanced security framework features a blend of advanced surveillance, increased patrolling, and stringent checks. This multi-layered strategy aims to proactively manage potential threats and guarantee smooth celebrations.
According to security officials, a collaborative effort is underway involving visible and covert operations to maintain public order. This includes the deployment of additional personnel, the use of cutting-edge technology, and coordination among the Police, CRPF, Army, and Border Security Force (BSF).
A three-tiered security system will be established across district headquarters, with a particular focus on major urban centers like Srinagar. “Our security arrangements are thorough, with ongoing patrolling and both covert and overt surveillance. We are confident in our preparations for a smooth Independence Day celebration,” a senior police official confirmed.
Increased frisking and enhanced surveillance are part of the measures to ensure public safety and manage crowd movement effectively. “Surveillance and frisking have been intensified across district headquarters, including Srinagar city, to facilitate smooth public movement,” the official added.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lead the main Independence Day event, which will feature a series of special activities organized by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
In Jammu, security has been notably tightened, particularly along the borders. The Army and BSF have increased their vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). “Area domination and checks in the hinterland have been intensified as part of the heightened security arrangements,” a senior military officer reported.
The Police have urged the public to assist by cooperating during checks and reporting any suspicious activities. “We ask residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual movements or objects. Ensuring a secure environment for everyone is our top priority,” officials emphasized.
Additionally, the Jammu zone police have called for heightened alertness and proactive measures to address potential terror threats. This includes bolstering border security, implementing anti-drone measures, and setting up joint checkpoints at sensitive and inter-district locations.
The Jammu and Kashmir UT government has mandated that all government employees in Srinagar and Jammu attend the main Independence Day celebrations at Bakshi Stadium and Maulana Azad Stadium, respectively. “Attendance is compulsory for official duties. Absences will only be permitted with prior approval from immediate supervisors,” the directive states.
Administrative Secretaries, Department Heads, and Public Sector leaders have been instructed to ensure their teams comply with this requirement.(KNS)
