‘Nomination Papers of Sarjan Ahmad Wagay Rejected Due to Missing Oath Certificate’: Official Statement

Official Statement:

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KINS): “On August 27, 2024, at 2:55 PM, the authorized representative of Sarjan Ahmad Wagay submitted the nomination papers to the Returning Officer at 36 Zainapora.
However, upon examination, it was found that the submission lacked a mandatory oath certificate, as required under Section 16 of the J&K Reorganization Act 2019. The candidate, currently detained in Central Jail Srinagar, was required to provide a signed oath certificate from the Jail Superintendent. This certificate should have been submitted at the time of scrutiny. The authorized representative was given until 11:00 AM on August 28, 2024, to provide the necessary documents. Despite this, the representative only submitted an incomplete and invalid oath certificate via WhatsApp at 1:48 PM, which is not an accepted submission method. Consequently, due to the failure to meet the mandatory requirements, the Returning Officer was compelled to reject the nomination papers during scrutiny”.
