Light snowfall recorded in Sonamarg & other higher reaches of Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 27 (KINS): Light snowfall has been recorded in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, marking an early sign of the approaching winter season.

Affarwat Peak at Gulmarg witnessed around 1 cm of snow on Wednesday, while Sunshine Peak reported a similar accumulation.

Meanwhile, as per reports, Sonamarg’s higher reaches recorded around 2 cm of fresh snow.

The unexpected early snowfall has been welcomed by residents and visitors, signaling a potential early start to the tourist season. “It’s a delight to see snow this early. It feels like a precursor to a promising winter,” said Asif Khan, a local tourist guide in Gulmarg.

According to weather officials, the higher reaches above 4000 meters may receive a few more inches of snow if rain spells continue.

“We’re keeping an eye on the conditions. It’s not uncommon to see early snow in these regions, but with the rain in the forecast, some areas might see a more significant accumulation,” said an official from the meteorological department.

The snowfall and rain comes as a refreshing change following a period of dry weather. (KINS)
