Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan Inaugurates NDPS Court in Baramulla

Srinagar, Oct 24 (KINS): Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, accompanied by Judge Sanjeev Kumar Shukla, Administrative Judge of Baramulla, visited Baramulla to inaugurate the newly established Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Court at the District Court Complex.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including M.K. Sharma, Secretary to the Chief Justice; Jawad Ahmad, Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla; Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner; SSP Mohammad Zaid Malik, and other members of the bar and district administration.
The newly established NDPS Court will handle cases under the NDPS Act, which prohibits the production, possession, sale, and consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances. The court aims to ensure swift and focused judicial attention, particularly for non-violent offenders, while addressing the growing drug menace in the region.
Justice Tashi Rabstan highlighted the importance of specialized courts like the NDPS Court in ensuring timely and effective justice. He praised the efforts of the judiciary and law enforcement in combating drug-related issues. He also emphasized that the NDPS Court will streamline proceedings, helping to reduce delays in delivering judgments.
During the event, Justice Rabstan also distributed wheelchairs, crutches, and other aid materials to persons with disabilities (PwDs) to improve their mobility. Following the inauguration, he inspected the courtrooms, assessing infrastructure and operational efficiency. Additionally, he interacted with members of the Bar Association Baramulla, addressing their concerns and promising prompt action on their grievances.(KINS)
