While reading the tribute, Veeri expressed deep respect for Geelani’s contributions to the assembly.

Geelani was elected as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly three times from the Sopore constituency, winning elections in 1972, 1977, and 1987. He later became a prominent figure in the region, particularly with the rise of militancy in 1989, when he joined the separatist movement.
