Srinagar, NOV 15: As the part of its proactive measures to address challenges from snowfall, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted an extensive snow clearance mock drill today. The exercise aimed to evaluate the city’s preparedness for heavy snowfall and ensure seamless functioning of essential services during the upcoming winter season.
The drill simulated real-life snow clearance operations at key locations across Srinagar, with the deployment of teams besides snowplows, loaders, and salt spreaders. The exercise tested the efficiency of machinery, coordination among departments, and response to potential obstacles such as roadblocks and vehicle disruptions.
Commissioner, SMC, Dr. Owais while underscored the importance of readiness, said, “Our resolve is to ensure Srinagar’s accessibility throughout the winter period.”
He said that the mock drill was held to evaluate our operational preparedness to handle emergencies efficiently.
It was informed that the SMC is committed to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
In this regard continuous training, equipment upgradation and public engagement activities are conducted to implement winter strategy effectively.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain informed about snow clearance operations and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth and safe transit during snowfall.
