Baramulla, Nov 16: The annual Guru Purab celebrations in Baramulla were marked with enthusiasm and reverence, highlighting the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, led by President Paramjeet and Chairman Omkar Singh, addressed a press conference to emphasize Guru Nanak’s enduring message of equality, humility, and devotion.
Paramjeet urged the community to share their success and blessings to uplift others, reflecting the Guru’s teachings on compassion and hard work. “Guru Ji’s teachings inspire us to chant the name of God, keeping us close to the divine,” he stated, underlining spirituality’s role in daily life.
The event revisited Guru Nanak’s groundbreaking ideas on equality, particularly the Langar tradition—a community kitchen symbolizing social harmony and breaking distinctions of caste, class, and wealth. “In the Langar, there are no distinctions of big or small, rich or poor. Everyone sits together as equals,” Paramjeet said.
Omkar Singh acknowledged the progress made towards equality but highlighted persistent challenges, particularly in addressing gender inequality. He urged continued efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination in line with Guru Nanak’s vision of universal equality.
The celebrations concluded with a collective prayer and a reaffirmation of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s values of love, service, humility, and devotion to God.
