Jammu, Nov 16 ( KINS) : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while addressing a large gathering at the annual Jhiri Mela, announced that Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be conducted soon. He was speaking at Jhiri Village, where he paid obeisance at the Samadhi of Baba Jitto, the legendary farmer saint.
Highlighting the significance of the Jhiri Mela, LG Sinha said, “The sacrifice of Baba Jitto continues to inspire society to work towards a stronger nation.” He emphasized the cultural unity symbolized by the event, calling it a celebration of India’s rich heritage, art, and social values.
During his address, the LG reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering farmers and transforming the agriculture sector. “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have taken strategic steps to accelerate the growth of agriculture and allied sectors in J&K. My mission is to ensure equal opportunities for rural youth and empower the farming community,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also assured the protection of the rights of displaced families from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), West Pakistan Refugees, tribals, Valmikis, and other underprivileged sections.
At the event, LG Sinha felicitated progressive farmers and government officials involved in organizing the Jhiri Mela. He also visited stalls showcasing agricultural initiatives, art, and crafts, and witnessed cultural performances highlighting the region’s heritage.
The event was attended by prominent officials, including Bharat Bhushan, Chairman of DDC Jammu, ADGP Anand Jain, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, MLA Surinder Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya, along with farmers, devotees, and cultural enthusiasts from across the region.( KINS )
