Jammu, January 6 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured that the newly inaugurated Jammu railway division and the Kashmir rail link will boost the region’s economy rather than harm it.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new railway division in Jammu, the Chief Minister said that the development will enhance trade, create jobs, and boost tourism in the region.
“This is a historic day for Jammu and Kashmir. The long-standing demand of the people of Jammu for their own railway division has finally been fulfilled,” Omar Abdullah said, according to news agency KINS.
He dismissed concerns about potential economic losses for Jammu due to the direct rail link to Kashmir, promising instead significant benefits for the region. “The new connectivity will strengthen Jammu’s economy, with a surge in trade and tourism. We will ensure that Jammu reaps the rewards of this progress,” the Chief Minister stated.
Omar also highlighted the employment opportunities the new railway division would bring. With operations and coordination now based in Jammu, the government will prioritize local recruitment, he said, ensuring that the region’s youth benefit from the initiative.
The inauguration ceremony also marked the connection of the Srinagar-Katra rail line, a project expected to transform travel across the state. The Chief Minister stated that the connectivity would address longstanding issues such as winter disruptions in air travel and inflated airfare, providing a reliable and affordable alternative for commuters.
The completion of the Kashmir rail link, Omar said, represents a step forward in improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. (KINS)
