Kashmiri Mathematician unveils India’s first high-tech solar Car, ‘RAY’

Srinagar, Feb 10 (KINS): Kashmiri mathematician Bilal Ahmad Mir has become the first person in India to manufacture a high-tech solar-powered car, aptly named RAY.

The car, featuring cutting-edge technology and a sleek design, was unveiled in Srinagar on Monday, marking a milestone in India’s green automotive innovation.

Mir, renowned for his trailblazing work in the field of renewable energy, launched the latest version of his solar car under his brand Bilal Innovative Solar Automobile (BISA). The revamped model boasts advanced technology, greater efficiency, and a striking red exterior, complete with gull-wing doors equipped with integrated solar panels.

“It has been my dream since 2009 to establish BISA and create a unique solar-powered vehicle,” said Mir, who transitioned from

mathematics to engineering in pursuit of his passion. However, his journey was far from smooth. “In my first attempt, I converted a car to run on hydrogen gas, but due to technical challenges, I later transitioned it to an electric vehicle,” he explained.

Realizing the limitations of traditional electric vehicles, Mir further refined his innovation to harness solar energy. “I delved deep into solar technology research, studying numerous journals and working tirelessly day and night to bring this vision to life,” he added.

Mir’s design journey involved extensive study of luxury car aesthetics from the 1950s to modern-day models, ensuring RAY combined both style and state-of-the-art functionality. The car’s aerodynamic shape minimizes wind resistance, enhancing overall performance, while its dual power system—a combination of solar energy and a

rechargeable battery—ensures it can function effectively even in cloudy or snowy conditions.

“I fully self-funded this venture, spending over ₹20 lakh to complete my dream project,” Mir shared. Despite initial interest from Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, a potential collaboration fell through due to technical constraints.

The five-seater vehicle features a charging port near the rear boot, but unlike conventional electric cars, RAY charges itself even in less favorable weather conditions. “This car isn’t just about solar

energy; it’s about redefining how we think of sustainable transportation,” Mir emphasized.

Mir’s pioneering work has garnered international attention, with his research published in six countries, earning him the nickname “Elon Musk of Kashmir.” As he continues to push the boundaries of renewable automotive technology, Mir’s RAY stands as a beacon of innovation, inspiring a new wave of sustainable transportation in India.(KINS)
