Mehbooba Mufti Criticizes Omar Abdullah for silence on security concerns in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 11 (KINS): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed disappointment over National Conference (NC) leader and Chief Minister ‘Omar Abdullah’s failure to speak out on critical security issues in the region, despite the party’s significant political influence’.

During a media interaction as per news agency KINS, Mufti pointed out that while her party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has limited representation in the Legislative Assembly, the NC holds considerable power with 50 members in the Assembly and Parliament.

She questioned Abdullah’s silence on vital security concerns, such as human rights violations and military excesses.

Mufti specifically referred to two recent incidents that have sparked public outrage: the alleged killing of a truck driver in Sopore and the ‘tragic case of a youth in Kathua’.

She accused the administration of obstructing her and her party members from visiting affected areas and claimed that even her daughter’s personal security officers were unjustly suspended.

The PDP leader criticized what she called the government’s “selective action” and demanded accountability for human rights abuses. “We are an opposition party, not militants. Our responsibility is to stand with the people when they face injustice,” Mufti emphasized, adding that the restoration of statehood would be meaningless unless the right to life is protected.(KINS)
