SMC Commissioner Reviews Progress of National Clean Air Program in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 13( KINS): In a significant step towards improving air quality in Srinagar, Dr. Owais Ahmed, Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to assess the progress of the National Clean Air Program (NCAP).

The meeting provided an in-depth evaluation of the initiatives undertaken under NCAP during the financial year 2024-25. Dr. Owais acknowledged the substantial progress made in enhancing air quality through various measures while also highlighting areas requiring further focus and development.

Stressing the urgency of combating air pollution, Dr. Owais remarked, “Clean air is not just an environmental concern but a public health necessity. We must remain proactive, committed, and innovative in our approach to ensure a healthier environment for the people of Srinagar.”

He directed the departments involved to accelerate their efforts, enhance coordination, and streamline processes to maximize the program’s impact. He also emphasized the need for accountability among stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of NCAP initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all participants to prioritize air quality improvement and advance the objectives of the NCAP. SMC reaffirmed its dedication to making Srinagar a cleaner and healthier city, with continuous monitoring of the program’s progress.

The session was attended by senior officials, including the Joint Commissioner (Administration) SMC, Joint Commissioner (Works), Superintending Engineer (Drainage), the Divisional Forest Officer (SMC), and Executive Engineers from the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, among others.(KINS)
