BJP MLAs demand proper rehabilitation for shopkeepers affected by Kunjwani-Satwari Flyover
Jammu, Mar 16 (KINS): The BJP on Saturday demanded proper rehabilitation for 39 shopkeepers set to lose their business premises due to the construction of the Kunjwani-Satwari flyover in Jammu.
BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Narinder Singh raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly soon after the session began, informing the House that the administration had served eviction notices to the affected shopkeepers. They emphasized that the government had previously assured them that alternative land would be provided before the construction began.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather urged the MLAs to allow the Question Hour to proceed smoothly. However, after the session, the BJP legislators reiterated their demand and pressed for a response from the government. The Speaker clarified that he could not compel the government to reply to issues raised during Zero Hour.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, MLA Vikram Randhawa criticized the government’s approach. “Contrary to the promise of proper rehabilitation, the shopkeepers of Nai Basti have been served notices to vacate their premises without an alternative in place. Their demand for an identified land is justified, as they need to restart their businesses,” he said.
He warned that if the government failed to provide a solution, the BJP would stand with the shopkeepers in their protest. “These traders are now on the roads, and we will join them if their rightful rehabilitation is not ensured,” he asserted.(KINS)
