J&K Govt appoints additional DCs as District officers to enforce workplace sexual harassment Law

Srinagar, April 22 (KINS): In a move to strengthen the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has nominated Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) as District Officers in their respective districts.

News agency KINS reported that as per Government Order No. 505-JK(GAD) of 2025, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Civil Secretariat, J&K, the ADCs will now exercise powers and discharge functions outlined under Section 5 of Chapter III of the Act. The decision is part of the government’s broader commitment to ensure safer work environments for women across the Union Territory.

The order, signed by M Raju (IAS), Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, emphasizes the importance of robust district-level enforcement to handle complaints and oversee the redressal mechanisms mandated by the Act.

This nomination empowers the ADCs to play a pivotal role in preventing and addressing cases of workplace sexual harassment, ensuring that the provisions of the Act are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.

The move is expected to improve awareness, accountability, and prompt action in cases of harassment at workplaces throughout J&K.(KINS)
