ACB files chargesheet against Patwari and associate in Srinagar bribery trap case

Srinagar, June 27 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Additional Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in connection with a bribery case registered under FIR No. 15/2022. The case pertains to a trap laid by the ACB in April 2022, leading to the arrest of a serving Patwari and his associate for demanding and accepting a bribe.

In a statement issued to news agency KINS the ACB said that the chargesheet has been filed under Section 173 Cr.P.C. against the individuals, Jamil Hussain Khan, then Patwari Halqa Baghat-e-Shoor, Owanta Bhawan, Soura, Tehsil Eidgah – Charged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Section 120-B IPC. Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, a retired Patwari – Charged under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B IPC.

The case was initiated following a written complaint alleging that Patwari Jamil Hussain Khan, through his associate Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, had demanded a bribe of ₹9,000 for processing revenue documents related to land ownership. A trap was laid by the ACB on April 11, 2022, during which the tainted money was recovered from the accused.

Following a thorough investigation and after obtaining sanction from the competent authority, the chargesheet was formally submitted to the court on June 27, 2025, for judicial proceedings.

It is noteworthy that co-accused Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat had previously been convicted in a separate corruption case registered in 2009.

The next date of hearing in the case has been scheduled for August 13, 2025.(KINS)
