Srinagar, June 28 (KINS): In an important outreach ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday interacted with prominent members of civil society at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra and gather valuable feedback.
The Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3.
The high-level interaction, which began around 5:35 PM, saw active participation from a broad cross-section of society, including representatives from the transport, trade, tourism, and religious organizations. The objective was to foster coordination, ensure public participation, and fine-tune arrangements for the smooth and secure conduct of the Yatra.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, LG Manoj Sinha as per news agency KINS said, “Today, I invited civil society members, religious leaders, business traders, and MLAs for the meeting. For the past four years, we have been holding such interactions ahead of the Amarnath Ji Yatra. All stakeholders have once again assured of their full support to the administration for the smooth conduct of the Yatra,”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also present at the meeting.
Key officials who attended the meeting included Principal Secretary to LG Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Special DG Police SJM Geelani, and other senior civil and police officers.
Earlier during the meeting LG Sinha emphasized the collective responsibility in ensuring that the annual pilgrimage remains peaceful, well-managed, and spiritually fulfilling for the lakhs of pilgrims who will undertake the arduous journey to the holy cave shrine in South Kashmir.
“With the blessings of Baba Amarnath and the substantial improvements in essential services and infrastructure, this year’s Yatra promises to be spiritually enriching and a step forward in showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s readiness for hosting large-scale religious events,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Shri AmarnathJi Shrine Board, civil administration, police, and central security forces in putting in place a multi-layered security grid, medical support, logistics, and facilities for the pilgrims. The Lieutenant Governor also underlined the need for public cooperation and stakeholder synergy to ensure a seamless pilgrimage experience.
LG Sinha welcomed suggestions from civil society participants and stakeholders during the meeting, promising their feedback would be considered for fine-tuning on-ground arrangements.
Earlier this week, the Lieutenant Governor held a separate meeting with political leaders at Raj Bhawan to discuss security, logistical coordination, and community participation in making the Yatra successful. He had urged leaders across party lines to extend support in facilitating a safe and smooth pilgrimage.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is one of the largest annual religious pilgrimages in India, drawing thousands of devotees each day during the limited summer window. With enhanced facilities, improved connectivity, and better coordination, the UT administration expects this year’s Yatra to set a new benchmark in both spiritual and administrative execution.(KINS)
