Omar Abdullah slams Mehbooba Mufti over protest, says ‘go to Delhi, not Srinagar streets’

Srinagar, Aug 25 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday came down heavily on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti for staging a protest in Srinagar, demanding the release of prisoners.
Talking to reporters according to news agency KINS, Omar questioned the efficacy of holding demonstrations in Srinagar, saying that such issues could only be addressed by the central government in New Delhi.
“Decisions on security matters in Jammu and Kashmir are taken by the Centre. Instead of wasting time protesting here, she should go to Delhi, meet the Home Minister Amit Shah, and raise the matter there, just like we did. Protesting in Srinagar won’t serve any purpose. If she is doing it just for show, then let her continue,” Omar remarked.
Omar’s sharp criticism came after Mehbooba Mufti, accompanied by senior PDP leaders and workers, led a march from the party’s headquarters in Srinagar. The protestors were demanding the release of political detainees and other prisoners lodged in different jails within and outside Jammu and Kashmir. (KINS)
