Srinagar, Sept 08 (KINS):National Conference senior leader and Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday paid rich tributes to “Sher e Kashmir” Sheikh Abdullah, recalling him as the towering statesman who stood for brotherhood, harmony, and justice for all and earned the title of “Lion of Kashmir” for his unmatched leadership and contribution to society.

Speaking to media persons at a commemorative event in Srinagar as per news agency KINS, Itoo said, “I don’t have words for the tall leader who left behind a legacy not only in the country but also at the international level. He was rightly called the Lion of Kashmir. I believe we have not seen a leader like him again.”

Highlighting Sheikh Abdullah’s role in transforming Jammu and Kashmir, she said, “If we talk about his contributions — whether in development, education, or employment — overnight he gave people their due rights on land. His vision and struggle continue to live in the hearts of the people of Kashmir.”

Itoo also underlined Sheikh Abdullah’s inclusive politics that resonated across communities. “Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Naras — it was Sheikh Sahib who gave this slogan of unity. He stood for brotherhood, harmony, and justice for all,” she remarked.

The minister added that the younger generation must learn from the values and sacrifices of Sheikh Abdullah, who laid the foundation of modern Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
