HM Amit Shah calls for strict action against fugitives

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday called for a strict and uncompromising approach towards all fugitives — including economic offenders, cyber criminals, and those involved in terrorism — to ensure they are brought before the Indian justice system.

Addressing a conference on “Extradition of Fugitives – Challenges and Strategies” organised by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi, Shah emphasised that India must show zero tolerance not only towards corruption, crime, and terrorism but also towards criminals operating from abroad.

“Whether they are economic offenders, cyber criminals, those involved in terrorist activities, or part of organised crime networks — a ruthless approach must be adopted against every fugitive to ensure they are brought before Indian justice. The time has come for this,” Shah asserted.

He said the Narendra Modi-led government has put in place foolproof systems to ensure no offender can escape the reach of law.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, a strong India is moving forward to ensure not only the security of its borders but also the strengthening of the rule of law,” the Home Minister added.

Highlighting the importance of a coordinated and speedy response against international crime, Shah said that the reach of justice must always be swifter than the tactics of criminals.

He urged all states to set up at least one prison facility meeting international standards to counter the arguments of fugitives in foreign courts who often cite poor prison conditions in India to avoid extradition.

The Home Minister also called for the establishment of a robust and definitive mechanism to ensure that every fugitive is brought within the ambit of Indian law, reaffirming the government’s determination to uphold justice without compromise.(KINS)
