First-of-its-kind safety app launched by J&K Police in Baramulla; SSP says ‘Application aims to protect most vulnerable groups’

KINS Correspondent

Baramulla, Nov 06 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Police today launched a first-of-its-kind safety application in Baramulla district to ensure safety of vulnerable groups.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh said the application has been introduced as a pilot project to enhance protection and communication for those facing potential security threats.

“This initiative is focused on individuals and groups who are most vulnerable — including minority communities, migrant laborers, and protected or non-political persons. Around 6,000 people have already been enrolled, and we expect the number to reach between 7,000 and 8,000 soon,” the SSP said.

Explaining the app’s functionality, the SSP noted that police have devised a mechanism to ensure safety even in low-network areas.

“If a laborer or individual is working in a remote location, our beat officer will personally visit the site, enroll them, and provide contact numbers of nearby security establishments. This creates an additional layer of security and ensures swift communication in case of emergencies,” he added.

Highlighting broader security measures in the district, the SSP revealed that 16 Border Outposts (BOPs) and 10 Border Police Posts (BPPs) have been sanctioned for Baramulla.

“Out of these, 26 units will be made fully functional by next year. This will significantly strengthen security coordination, particularly in border and remote regions,” he said.

The innovative Safety App marks a proactive move by J&K Police to leverage technology for public safety, particularly for those living and working in sensitive and high-risk areas of Baramulla district.(KINS)
