Srinagar, Nov 27 (KINS): National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday chaired an important two-day working committee meeting at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subh, in Srinagar.

The meeting started at 11 am and will continue on Friday.

It brought together senior party leaders to discuss recent political challenges, organisational issues, and the NC’s strategy for the coming months.

The meeting mainly focused on the party matters, the ongoing debate around the reservation issue, and the demand for the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood. Leaders also discussed the need to strengthen the party’s structure and improve its connection with people at the grassroots level.

NC MLA Salman Ali Sagar described the first day of the meeting as productive, saying that senior leaders—including Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah—were actively involved.

“The discussions are aimed at strengthening the party’s outreach, reviewing current developments, and planning the future course of action,” Sagar told reporters, as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

MLA Mir Saifulla said that the working committee held detailed conversations on organisational matters.

“We discussed internal organisational issues in depth. Governance and development were also on the agenda because they directly impact how people view both the party and the government,” he said.

Sources said that the present political situation in J&K, especially the reservation controversy and the push for statehood, dominated today’s discussions. Leaders also analysed the reasons behind the party’s defeats in the Budgam and Nagrota bypolls, with MLAs sharing their constituency-wise feedback to help identify weaknesses and areas needing attention.

A senior NC leader said the working committee normally meets every few months to carry out a thorough review and plan ahead.

According to insiders, one of the key points discussed on Thursday was how to strengthen the party’s campaign for the return of statehood.

“The strategy for securing statehood was a major focus. The party is examining how to raise this issue more strongly at political, public, and legal forums,” a senior leader said.

The meeting will continue on Friday, when the party is expected to finalise resolutions and lay down a clear roadmap for the future.(KINS)
