Prominent Political leaders, supporters join Congress in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 29 (KINS): Several prominent political figures from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, along with their supporters, joined the Congress Party on Monday at an event held at the party’s Srinagar office.

Welcoming the new entrants, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra described the development as a reflection of the Congress Party’s pro-people approach and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the constitutional rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Among those who joined the Congress were Advocate Owais Khan, former Apni Party leader from Shopian; Waseem Ahmad Shalla from Srinagar; and Sameer Bhat from Budgam. They were accompanied by hundreds of supporters and expressed full faith in the Congress Party’s policies and the leadership of Tariq Hameed Karra. The new members assured the party leadership of their active participation in all future initiatives and struggles aimed at public service, citing the Congress Party’s legacy of empowering people.

Addressing the gathering, Karra said that an increasing number of prominent political leaders, including youth, are joining the Congress as it remains the only party that genuinely represents the aspirations of the people. He asserted that the Congress is firmly committed to protecting the dignity, identity and rights of Jammu and Kashmir, and has consistently opposed what he termed attempts by the BJP-RSS to undermine the region’s constitutional and political status.

He reiterated that the Congress will continue its struggle for the restoration of statehood with full constitutional guarantees, describing it as an indigenous movement of the party. Karra alleged that Jammu and Kashmir has suffered on multiple fronts due to what he called the divisive and flawed policies of the BJP, and reaffirmed the party’s resolve to fight uncompromisingly for the restoration of the region’s dignity and honour.

Senior Congress leaders, including Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mandoo, Media Coordinator Dr Audil Farooq Mir Lasjan, district presidents Irfan Naqib, Er Muzaffar Dar, Reyaz Manhas, Shabnum Jan, and several other party leaders, were present on the occasion.(KINS)
