Srinagar, Jan 09 (KINS): Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, IPS, on Friday held an interaction programme with 29 Probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySSPs) of the 2024 batch who are undergoing practical training across various districts of the Kashmir Zone. The programme was held at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir.
The interaction was attended by senior officers, including the DIG Central Kashmir Range, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, and other senior police officers.
At the outset, IGP Kashmir welcomed the probationers and congratulated them on joining the police service. He emphasised that integrity, fairness, impartiality, accountability, and discipline must remain the guiding principles of all police actions.
V.K. Birdi elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of DySSPs in operations, investigations, maintenance of law and order, and administrative supervision. He stressed the importance of sound decision-making, effective leadership, and continuous learning during the initial years of service.
Highlighting the need for professional, thorough, and outcome-oriented investigations, the IGP underlined strict adherence to procedural requirements, particularly under special laws such as the UAPA and NDPS Act. He advised the officers to strengthen their investigative and operational skills, maintain a comprehensive understanding of criminal laws and procedures, and make effective use of information technology.
The IGP also emphasised adherence to police rules, standing orders, and proper documentation, including FIR drafting, petitions, case law references, police station management, and maintenance of registers. He stressed professional conduct, discipline, supervision of subordinates, proper uniform turnout, and ethical behaviour.
Officers were encouraged to develop interpersonal skills, humility, and strong moral values, and to regularly consult Bare Acts, police manuals, and official instructions to enhance professional competence.
Birdi further highlighted the importance of public engagement, advising officers to adopt a problem-solving approach, balance compassion with firmness, and exercise responsible use of social media.
The programme concluded with the probationary officers reaffirming their commitment to serve with dedication, integrity, and responsibility while upholding the values and traditions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.(KINS)
