Snowfall a blessing, will improve water availability, help farmers and boost tourism despite temporary hardships: MLA Javid Baig

Baramulla, Jan 23 (KINS): MLA Baramulla Javid Baig on Friday said the snowfall is a blessing for the region, as it will help solve problems related to drinking water, irrigation, farming and tourism.

Talking to news agency KINS, Javid Baig said people should be thankful to Allah for the snowfall. “I was worried about the availability of drinking and irrigation water if our water sources dried up. This snowfall has brought much-needed relief,” he said.

He also said that people faced difficulties due to strong winds and harsh weather. “The gusty winds yesterday caused problems, and many residents suffered inconvenience. It is unfortunate that some people try to politicise such natural events,” the MLA said.

Javid Beigh said the snowfall will benefit farmers and orchardists. “Our agriculture and horticulture sectors will gain a lot from this snowfall,” he added.

On restoration work, the MLA said snow clearance is going on across Baramulla town. “If there is no more snowfall, the town will be cleared within two to three days. However, some restrictions may continue for a while because of heavy snow accumulation,” he said.

He informed that around 40 snow clearance machines have been deployed in the town. “Roads will be restored step by step. It is not possible to reach all areas at once, but I am in constant touch with the administration to speed up the work,” he said.

Highlighting the long-term impact, the MLA said the snowfall will give a major boost to tourism in Baramulla. “This snowfall will be very beneficial for tourism,” he added.(KINS)
