J&K Economy likely to grow 5.82% in 2025-26: Survey

Jammu, Feb 05 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir’s economy is projected to grow by 5.82 per cent in 2025-26, according to the Economic Survey Report 2025-26 presented in the Assembly by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The report said the UT recorded a 4.47 per cent average growth between 2019-20 and 2024-25, performing better than several northern states. The economy is estimated at Rs 2.86 lakh crore in nominal terms, while per capita income is expected to reach Rs 1.68 lakh in 2025-26.

It noted improvement in employment, falling inflation, and rising revenue collections. Agriculture, horticulture, tourism, and industry continued to drive growth, while social sectors like health and education also showed progress.

The survey highlighted better health indicators, higher school enrolment, expansion in tourism and industry, and plans to double hydropower capacity by 2028, reflecting overall development in the Union Territory.(KINS)
