Jammu, Feb 05 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said he would raise the issue of reopening several closed tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his forthcoming visit to the Union Territory.
Replying to a supplementary question raised by Congress MLA Nizam Uddin Bhat in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister acknowledged that many tourist locations remain shut following the terror attack in Pahalgam in April last year.
“It is true that some destinations are still closed. I feel the time has come to reopen them. The government is already in touch with the Centre on this matter,” Abdullah said.
He added that the Home Minister’s upcoming visit would provide an opportunity to hold detailed discussions on the issue. “I assure this House, particularly the MLA from Bandipora, that I will take up this matter with him,” he stated.
Following the deadly attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam on April 22 last year, in which 26 tourists were killed, the LG administration had shut down nearly 50 tourist destinations as a security measure.
While more than a dozen locations were reopened in September, several prominent tourist spots continue to remain inaccessible, affecting tourism activities in the region.(KINS)
