Srinagar, April 15 (KINS): IGP Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, chaired a crime review meeting of the Kashmir Zone at PCR Kashmir today. The meeting was attended by all range DIGs, district SSPs, JDP ZPHQ, and other senior officers.
At the outset, the IGP conducted a comprehensive review of crime across the Kashmir Zone. This was followed by detailed presentations from district SSPs, who outlined measures taken to curb criminal activities in their respective jurisdictions. Discussions focused on disposal of general crime cases, NDPS and UAPA cases, absconders, and other related offences. Preventive actions under various laws and pending inquest proceedings were also reviewed.
The IGP commended district chiefs for their efforts in crime prevention and stressed improving the quality of investigations. He emphasized enhancing conviction rates through a strong follow-up mechanism, particularly in narcotics and terrorism-related cases.
He also reviewed the progress of the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan” across the zone, taking stock of enforcement measures such as property attachments under NDPS cases and arrests of drug peddlers. Awareness drives and anti-drug rallies were also assessed. The IGP directed officers to intensify efforts and expedite legal action to dismantle drug networks.
While reviewing the security framework, he instructed officers to strengthen area domination drives and night patrolling, especially in vulnerable areas.
Concluding the meeting, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to maintaining peace and security, urging officers to ensure transparency, accountability, and prompt disposal of cases. (KINS)
