Light rain across Kashmir; MeT forecasts showers, gusty winds till Sunday, improvement likely from April 20

Srinagar, Apr 17 (KINS): Kashmir recorded light rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the Meteorological Department forecasting more intermittent showers and thundershowers across the region until Sunday.

According to MeT data, Srinagar received 2.6 mm of rainfall during the period. Other areas saw higher precipitation, with Qazigund recording 4.4 mm, Kupwara 6 mm, and Gulmarg emerging among the wettest locations at 7 mm. Pahalgam also registered 5.4 mm of rainfall.

Night temperatures across the Valley remained above normal by 0 to 3 degrees Celsius at several places. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.6°C.

The MeT Department as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) has predicted partly to generally cloudy conditions with intermittent light rain or thundershowers at many places till April 19. These weather activities are expected mainly during morning and evening hours.

The forecast also indicates gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, along with a possibility of hailstorms at isolated locations during this period.

Weather conditions are likely to improve from April 20 onwards, with generally dry conditions expected to prevail till April 24. The dry spell may extend to April 25 and 26, although brief spells of light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds cannot be ruled out at isolated places, especially during afternoon hours.
