Jammu, Aug 5 (KINS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said that the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019 marked the beginning of a new era of unity, equality and development for Jammu and Kashmir.
The remarks were made during a meeting of BJP J&K spokespersons held at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi to commemorate the anniversary of the August 5, 2019 decision and discuss its significance for Jammu and Kashmir and the nation.
The party leaders said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah fulfilled a long-standing commitment and strengthened India’s unity and integrity. They maintained that the move fully integrated Jammu and Kashmir into the national mainstream.
The spokespersons said the BJP had consistently advocated the removal of Articles 370 and 35A, adding that the decision reflected the party’s commitment to the principle of “One Nation, One Constitution” and to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens.
They also highlighted what they described as the positive impact of the decision, including faster infrastructure development, transparent governance, stronger democratic institutions, improved public welfare, and the extension of Central laws and welfare schemes across the Union Territory.
The BJP leaders expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the party’s central leadership for taking what they termed a historic decision in the national interest. They said August 5, 2019 would be remembered as a landmark day that paved the way for peace, progress, development and equal constitutional rights in Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
