Jammu, Sep 09 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested a clerk posted at the Treasury Office, Kalakote, Rajouri, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of 20,000 from a complainant.
The ACB in a statement issued to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said that it received a written complaint from a retired fourth-class employee of the Health Department, who alleged that he was required to withdraw 50,000 as gratuity from the Treasury Office, Kalakote.
The complainant alleged that the accused official demanded 25,000 as illegal gratification for processing his case for withdrawal of the gratuity amount. After the complainant pleaded that he was financially weak, the alleged bribe was negotiated and settled at 20,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a written complaint seeking legal action.
The ACB said the allegations were verified and, following registration of a case, a team from ACB Police Station Rajouri was constituted to lay a trap.
During the trap operation, the accused official was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting 20,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot.
Subsequently, the ACB also conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused in Rajouri in connection with the case.
