Veterinary Interns’ Protest Enters Fourth Day at SKUAST-K Shuhama
Srinagar, 10 Sept (KINS): The protest by veterinary interns at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Shuhama, entered its fourth consecutive day on Thursday, with the protesting interns continuing to demand an increase in their internship stipend.
The protesting interns have been assembling at the SKUAST-K Shuhama campus for the past few days, seeking an increase in their current stipend of ₹6,000 to ₹23,000.
In a statement to KINS, the protesting interns said that BVSc and AH interns in Jammu & Kashmir receive a comparatively low internship allowance in comparison with interns at several other veterinary institutions across the country, despite having similar responsibilities, workload and contributions to animal health services.
They said their protest is aimed at seeking a fair and reasonable internship allowance comparable to what veterinary interns receive elsewhere in the country.
The interns reiterated their demand for a revision of the existing stipend, stating that they seek parity with internship allowances provided at other veterinary institutions across India. (KINS)
