ASMITA Women’s Wushu League Commences in Shopian with Participation of More Than 350 Female Athletes

Shopian, Sep 22 (KINS): The ASMITA Women’s Wushu League commenced today at the Indoor Sports Stadium, Arhama, Shopian, with the participation of more than 300 female athletes from different schools and sports clubs across District Shopian.
The two-day championship, being held from September 22 to 24, 2026, is being organized by the District Wushu Association Shopian under the aegis of the Wushu Association of J&K and recognized and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.
The championship aims to encourage greater participation of women in sports and provide young female Wushu athletes with a competitive platform to showcase their talent, gain valuable experience and pursue excellence at higher levels of competition.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was held in an enthusiastic and sporting atmosphere in the presence of athletes, coaches, officials, sports enthusiasts and distinguished guests.
SHO Shopian, Mr. Shahbaz Ahmad, was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Manager/Incharge, Sports Stadium Shopian, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Khanday, attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the participating athletes, the dignitaries appreciated the initiative and encouraged the young sportspersons to participate in sports with confidence, discipline and dedication. They highlighted the important role of sports in the overall development of young people and emphasized that sporting participation helps build self-confidence, discipline, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The dignitaries also extended their best wishes to all the participating athletes and encouraged them to continue working hard and aim for excellence at district, state, national and international levels.
Promoting Women’s Participation in Sports
The participation of more than 300 female athletes from different schools and clubs of District Shopian reflects the growing enthusiasm among young women towards Wushu and competitive sports.

Speaking on the occasion, District Secretary, Wushu Association Shopian, Mr. Shujaat Altaf Pahalwan, expressed gratitude to all those who have continuously supported the development of Wushu and youth sports in District Shopian.
He conveyed his sincere thanks to Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Ms. Tazayin Mukhtar, Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach of India, Mr. Kuldeep Handoo, the President and Secretary of Wushu Association of J&K, Joint Secretary, Wushu Association of J&K, Mr. Maqsood Ahmad Rather, Managing Director, FSLD Fighters Club, Mr. Aaqib Majeed, Manager/Incharge, Sports Stadium Shopian, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Khanday, and KIC Shopian Coach, Mr. Rameez Ahmad Dar, for their continued support and encouragement.
Mr. Shujaat Altaf Pahalwan appreciated the efforts of the officials, coaches, technical staff, volunteers, participating schools and clubs for contributing towards the successful conduct of the championship.
He said that the continued support from sports authorities, the Wushu fraternity and local stakeholders is providing young athletes of District Shopian with valuable opportunities to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.
Role of District Wushu Association Shopian
The championship is being conducted by the District Wushu Association Shopian, which has been working towards the promotion and development of Wushu in the district and creating opportunities for young athletes, particularly women, to participate in organized competitive sports.
The association appreciated the dedication of the organizing team, coaches, officials and volunteers involved in the conduct of the ASMITA Women’s Wushu League.
Senior coaches and officials also congratulated all participating athletes and encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their sporting careers.
