Srinagar, Sep 25 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing the media at the Assembly, said the purpose of moving the statehood resolution was to remind the Government of India of its promise to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar as per news agency KINS said nearly two years had passed since the elected government took office, but the statehood promise had not yet been fulfilled. He said the resolution was brought through the Assembly because he believed it was the appropriate forum to reflect the aspirations of the people.
He clarified that the government had not brought an autonomy resolution, but had referred to earlier resolutions while seeking restoration of full statehood.
Omar also criticised the BJP over the protests in the House, alleging that its 29 MLAs, including the Leader of Opposition, were unwilling to vote on the statehood resolution. He said BJP members should have participated in the discussion and made their position clear through their vote.
The Chief Minister also said he was ready to present the performance report of his nearly two-year-old government.(KINS)
