Srinagar, 03 May: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been inundated with complaints from senior women functionaries holding public office, along with supporting evidence, detailing a disturbing trend of scurrilous communications circulating across various internet-based social media platforms.
“These communications, reportedly disseminated via platforms like WhatsApp, contain baseless, scandalous, and derogatory allegations aimed at tarnishing the reputations and integrity not only of the mentioned public figures but also of public institutions and government organizations.
“Attributed to a certain “Manish Sharma” of the Pir Panjal Times, the purported authorship of these communications has sparked outrage among the targeted individuals and raised concerns about the spread of malicious content in the digital realm” police said in a statement.
In response to the mounting complaints, the Crime Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has swiftly taken action, registering a case under FIR No. 04/2024, invoking sections 467, 471, 500, 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act, specifically section 66C.
“The gravity of these allegations cannot be overstated, as they not only impugn the dignity of the individuals named but also undermine the trust and respect for our public institutions,” remarked a senior official involved in the investigation.
