Srinagar, Sep 21 (KINS): As part of the ongoing efforts of the J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), a 5-kilometre run titled “Red Run” was held in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Kashmir. The event, part of a two-month-long Intensified IEC Campaign launched on 12th August 2024, aimed to educate the public on HIV and STIs.
The event kicked off with the flagging off of the run at Nishat Foreshore Road, with the race concluding at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir. Professor Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, inaugurated the event, joined by Dr. Abdul Rouf Bhat, Project Director of JKACS, and other dignitaries. Over 200 participants, including students, NGO members, and university staff, took part.
Following the 5 km run, a 2 km walkathon was also held, emphasizing continued support for HIV/AIDS awareness. Winners of the Red Run were awarded and will go on to compete in the national level competition organized by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.(KINS)
